The Many Benefits of All-on-4 Implants

It can be a hassle dealing with missing teeth, especially when you have temporary solutions that slip or shift, such as dentures. That’s why Ali Khosrovani, DDS, at A Briter Smile in Los Angeles offers the most advanced approaches available to replace missing teeth, such as All-on-4® dental implants. But what is this innovative approach, and what sets it apart? Here’s everything you need to know.

Missing teeth and your oral health

Your tooth has two primary areas: the crown and the root. The crown sits above your gumline, and the root lies beneath. This delicate structure creates stability in your mouth while also stimulating tissue growth in your jawbone.

A missing tooth can cause a host of problems. First, your remaining teeth can start to shift, your gums can recede, and your jawbone can shrink. A missing tooth can also lead to plaque buildup, tooth decay, gum disease, and other oral health issues.

Temporary solutions, such as dentures and bridges, primarily address the cosmetic issues surrounding tooth loss. But, they fall short with oral health issues, such as jawbone preservation. Dentures and bridges can also slip, making it harder to feel confident when you speak or chew. That’s why Dr. Khosrovani recommends single implants if you’re just missing one or two teeth, or All-on-4 implants if you’re missing a number of teeth.

Introducing All-on-4 dental implants

A dental implant replaces a missing tooth by inserting an artificial metal root into your jawbone, which then supports a replacement crown.

If you have several missing teeth requiring partial or full dentures, however, replacing each tooth with an implant would be a lengthy process. All-on-4 dental implants offer a novel solution. Instead of using a single implant for each tooth, Dr. Khosrovani can give you an entire upper arch of teeth or lower arch of teeth with just four metal roots.

During your appointment, Dr. Khosrovani administers anesthesia before making a thin incision in your gum tissue. Then, he uses a small drill to strategically place your four titanium roots before closing your gums with stitches. This process usually takes approximately 2-½ hours per arch.

After your surgery, your new roots have to completely fuse with your jawbone before Dr. Khosrovani can secure your dental prosthesis in place. This usually takes 3-6 months.

With proper care, All-on-4 implants can last a lifetime.

The benefits of All-on-4 implants

All-on-4 dental implants provide numerous advantages, because they create a permanent, stable foundation for your dental prosthesis. Some of the benefits of All-on-4 implants include:

Choosing All-on-4 dental implants will also help maintain and support your facial features and help prevent bone loss in your jaw.
